How does a typical fedimint instance work?

A fedimint (lowercase "f") is a server instance of the Fedimint (capital "F") protocol. It is part of a system of servers managed by individuals called guardians. Together, these fedimint servers form a federation.

The guardians keep the servers running by ensuring they are connected to power and to the internet. If one server stops running, the federation can persist with a reduced set until the server in question is restarted by its respective guardian, making the system resilient.
