Can I receive eCash from a Cashu wallet?

eCash notes are issued by a specific Cashu mint or Fedimint federation and can only be sent and received within the same issuing mint.

Accordingly, funds from a Cashu wallet like eNuts or Minibits can only be sent to a federation on Fedi over the Lightning Network - similar to sending sats across federations or to a wallet outside of the Fedi ecosystem.

Once you receive the sats to your federation wallet via Lightning, the federation will issue an equivalent amount of eCash that can be sent within that mint.

If you have already issued eCash notes on Cashu, you can scan or paste the QR / token using the Fedi camera scanner, which will recognize the Cashu eCash and transfer the funds into your active federation wallet via Lightning in a process called eCash "melting."

Of course, the receiving federation will still issue an equivalent amount of fresh eCash notes to be used within that mint.
