What is a Public group?

A Public group is a group that can be joined by anyone with the invitation code. When shared on Fedi, the invitation code is conveniently displayed as a clickable button.

Note that Public groups carry privacy implications since anyone with the invitation code can join the group at any time. All messages and members in a public group are viewable by anyone.

Additionally, once you join a public group you will be discoverable by anyone on the Fedi platform even after you leave that group.

Given these privacy considerations, it is not possible to share attachments like photos and other files in public groups.
