A federated mint is managed by four or more guardians, each responsible for their own fedimint server. This model is the ideal setup in terms of security and resilience as no single guardian can lose or mishandle the money held in the mint.
In this setup, the loss or temporary inability to access one or more guardian servers does not prevent users from accessing the mint. The distribution of trust and control across multiple guardians ensures a robust and secure system.
Note that a four-guardian federation is resilient to one guardian fedimint server failing while a seven-guardian federation is resilient to two failures; a ten-guardian federation is resilient to three failures; and so on.
