At a technical level, Stable Balance relies on a contract between you, the stability seeker, and the stability provider, a counterparty that has offered to provide liquidity / collateral to help lock in the fiat value of your bitcoin for a fee.
Every 10 minutes, deposits from stability seekers are locked in a contract against liquidity from stability providers, and the applicable fee is debited from the seekers and credited to the providers.
At the same time, the contract from the previous cycle is settled using the difference between the starting and the ending price of bitcoin. These 10-minute cycles continue on an ongoing basis until you decide to withdraw your funds.
These 10-minute cycles the contracts operate on is the reason why deposits to and withdrawals from Stable Balance can take up to 10 minutes to be completed.
