How do I invite someone to join my chat group?

Private Groups

To invite someone to join a Private chat group where you are an Admin or Moderator, navigate to the Chat tab and select the relevant group. Once in the group, tap the name of the group at the top to access the group's settings and select Invite to group.

From here, tap the Scanner icon to scan the QR code of the person you'd like to invite. You can also copy and Paste their Fedi chat link here as well. Alternatively, you can also enter the username of the person you'd like to invite either on this screen or on the previous screen. 

Due to how discoverability works on Fedi, you can only find and invite Fedians to private groups by their username if you have already chatted with them previously. "Username" here actually refers to a Fedian's display name, which they can change at any time. 

For this reason, you should check the username of anyone you choose to invite to a private group using this method against the unique 4-character string that follows it to ensure you're inviting the correct person.

Public Groups

To invite someone to join a Public chat group where you are an Admin or Moderator, navigate to the Chat tab and select the relevant group. Once in the group, tap the name of the group at the top to access the group's settings and select Invite to group.

From here, copy and send the group invite code to the person you'd like to add, or have them scan the QR code using their Fedi omni-scanner. The scanner will recognize the QR code as a public group invitation. Note that only group Admins or Moderators can invite someone to join a chat group of any type.
