How can I see the status of a federation?

Federations whose guardian servers cannot be reached are clearly identified via status indicators in the Federations & Communities list, which you can access via the 3-line menu at the top left of the Home tab.

Tapping into the status indicator from the list will bring up the Federation Details page for the relevant federation, which will give additional context into its current status.

You can also access the Federation Details page for a given federation by navigating to the Account screen > tapping the relevant federation >  selecting Federation Details.

Below is an overview of the different indicator statuses and what each one means:

  • Online – All guardian servers are connected & running. This status is hidden in the Federations & Communities list, but it can be seen on the Federation Details page of the federation.
  • Unstable – At least one guardian server is offline. In this case the failure threshold has not been breached, so the federation is still operational but degraded.
    • Note that if the "Unstable" status persists for a prolonged period of time, you may want to consider moving your funds to a different federation.
  • Offline – There are enough guardian servers offline to breach the failure threshold. In this case the federation is not operational and cannot process transactions.

Note that if your device is not connected to the internet, you will not see any indicators on the Federations & Communities list, but the Federation Details page of every federation will show the mint's last known status.

The info shown in the Fedi app is limited, but you can use Fedimint Observer to see the consensus threshold of any publicly known federation along with the status of each individual guardian server for a federation.
