Migrating Entirely to a New Federation

The process of migrating to a new federation refers simply to transferring your entire balance, including Stable Balance funds if applicable, to the new federation and leaving the original federation.

You may choose to do this if your current federation is often "Unstable" or is nearing its end date; you've decided to start your own federation; or you've simply found one that better suits your needs.

Below is a detailed overview of each step in the process:

Step 1:  Join the New Federation

1. Tap the Scan tab to open the camera omni-scanner.
2. Scan or Paste the invitation code of the federation you would like to join and tap Continue.
3. On the next screen, review the welcome message and then tap Join Federation.

Note – If the new federation has terms of service, you should review them at the link on the Welcome screen. You will then see the option to tap I accept vs Join Federation.

Step 2 (If Applicable):  Withdraw from Original Stable Balance

1. On the Home tab, tap Withdraw on your USD (or other display currency) Stable Balance.
2. Enter the amount you want to transfer (denominated in fiat) and tap Continue.
3. On the next screen, tap Withdraw to confirm the transaction and then tap Okay.

Note – Withdrawals from Stable Balance may take up to 10 minutes, after which point the sats will be returned to your Bitcoin balance. You can check the status in your transaction history.

Step 3:  Transfer your Entire Balance

1. From the Home screen of the original federation, tap Send on your Bitcoin balance.
2. Select Send offline and enter your current balance in sats exactly.
3. Note the number shown in red, which is the true maximum amount you can send net of fees.
4. From the Home screen of the new federation, tap Receive on your Bitcoin balance.
5. Enter the true maximum number of sats you can send net of fees you from Step 3.
6. If you’d like, you can add a note to the transaction. When done, tap Request X SATS.
7. You will then see a Lightning invoice QR code. Tap Copy and then tap the X at the top right.
8. Next, tap Scan at the bottom right and Paste the Lightning invoice address. Tap Continue.
9. On the next screen, select the original federation from the drop-down menu at the top.
10. Here you can add a note to and review the details of the transaction. Once satisfied, tap Send.

Note – If the payment fails due to insufficient funds, the resulting error will show the true max number of sats you can send net of fees. Repeat the process using this number to zero-out your balance.

Step 4 (If Desired):  Deposit into New Stable Balance

1. On the Home tab, tap Deposit on your USD (or other display currency) Stable Balance.
2. Enter the amount you want to deposit (denominated in fiat) and tap Continue.
3. Review the details and fees on the next screen and then tap Deposit followed by Okay.

Note – Deposits to Stable Balance may take up to 10 minutes to complete. You can check the status of the deposit in your transaction history.

Step 5:  Leave the Original Federation

1. Tap your profile icon at the top right to access the Account screen.
2. Select the original federation to open the drop-down & tap Leave Federation.
3. Tap Yes on the pop-up asking if you are sure you'd like to leave the federation.

Note – Though a small "dust" amount can remain, you must transfer nearly your entire balance from the original federation before you can leave it. A message to this effect will appear if you haven't.
