How do I make a payment or send funds?

You can make a payment or send funds either via the Home tab or in a direct chat (DM) conversation.

From the Home Tab

To send funds from the Home tab, navigate to the federation wallet you'd like to pay from and tap Send on your bitcoin balance to bring up the Send bitcoin screen. From here, you can paste or scan a QR code for a Lightning invoice, static Lightning address, on-chain address, or Fedi chat user.

You can also tap Enter Username / Lightning Address to directly type in the display name of the person you'd like to pay. As with finding Fedi chat users, this method will only return a search result if you already have a previous chat history with the relevant individual. This does not apply if entering a Lightning address.

Once you have entered one of the above, you will see a payment confirmation screen. If sending to an on-chain address, Lightning address, or username, you will need to enter the amount to be sent denominated in sats or fiat. If paying a Lightning invoice, the amount to be sent should populate automatically.

Next, confirm the federation wallet you'd like to pay from, add a note to the transaction if desired, and review the transaction details & fees. Once satisfied, tap Send to complete your payment. 

Note that on-chain payments leave your federation wallet after 1 confirmation, but the recipient wallet may require additional block confirmations before they credit you the funds.

In a Direct Chat (DM)

To make a chat payment, initiate a direct chat with the person you'd like to pay or navigate to your existing conversation. From here, tap the wallet icon at the bottom left of the text box to show the payment screen. 

Enter the amount you'd like to send denominated in sats or fiat > confirm the federation wallet you'd like to pay from > add a note to the transaction if desired > tap Send. Review the details and fees on the next page, and tap Send again once satisfied.

Keep in mind that chat payments are done using eCash. The recipient will have to open their Fedi app while connected to the internet to receive the funds, during which time you have the option to cancel the payment. If the recipient does not come online within 3.5 days, the sats will be refunded to your balance.
