How do I make a payment or send funds?

You can make a payment or send funds either via the Wallet tab or in a direct chat (DM) conversation.

From the Wallet Tab

1. From the Wallet tab, navigate to the federation you'd like to pay from and tap ↑ Send on your bitcoin balance to bring up the Send bitcoin screen.
2. Paste or scan a QR code for a Lightning invoice, static Lightning address, on-chain address, or Fedi chat user. You can also manually enter a Lightning or on-chain bitcoin address, or tap the Scan/Paste central button from any tab.
3. On the payment confirmation screen, enter the amount in sats or fiat if sending to an on-chain address, Lightning address, or Fedi username. If paying a Lightning invoice, the amount populates automatically.
4. Confirm the federation you'd like to pay from, add a note to the transaction if desired, and review the transaction details & fees.
5. Once satisfied, tap Send to complete your payment.

Note that on-chain payments leave your federation wallet after 1 confirmation, but the recipient wallet may require additional block confirmations before they credit you the funds.

In a Direct Chat (DM)

1. Initiate a direct chat with the person you'd like to pay or navigate to your existing conversation.
2. Tap the wallet icon at the bottom left of the text box to show the payment screen.
3. Enter the amount you'd like to send in sats or fiat, confirm the federation wallet you'd like to pay from, and add a note to the transaction if desired.
4. Tap Send. Review the details and fees on the next page, and tap Send again once satisfied.

Keep in mind that chat payments are done using eCash. The recipient will have to open their Fedi app while connected to the internet to receive the funds, during which time you have the option to cancel the payment. Once claimed by the recipient, the cancel button will disappear, and the status will change to Paid.
