Can I receive eCash on Fedi from a Cashu mint?

eCash notes are always tied to the mint that issued them, whether that’s a Cashu mint (like eNuts or Minibits) or a Fedimint federation. Payments are kept anonymous as the notes are only exchanged between members within the mint but are not actually redeemed for bitcoin until they need to be transferred out.

When sending funds from a Cashu mint to a Fedimint federation, this redemption happens automatically. The Cashu eCash is “melted” into bitcoin and sent over Lightning, just like transferring between federations. Once your federation receives the sats, it issues you an equivalent amount of Fedimint eCash notes.

If you already hold Cashu eCash notes, you can deposit them into your federation wallet by scanning or pasting the relevant QR code or token using Fedi's omni-scanner. The app will melt the Cashu eCash in the background, crediting your active federation wallet with an equivalent amount of Fedimint eCash.
