How does making payments in mini apps work?

Payments in Fedi Mini Apps are powered by WebLN, a standard that lets websites and applications communicate directly with your Lightning-enabled wallet in a seamless, secure way.

This means that when you want to make a purchase in a Fedi mini app, like topping up your phone using Bitrefill or buying a prepaid Visa card with the Bitcoin Company, you can pay from your Fedi wallet without having to scan QR codes, paste invoices, or even exit the Mini App.

Here’s how it works in practice:

  1. The mini app requests a payment. When you check out, tip, or send funds in a mini app, the mini app  uses WebLN to create a payment request that can be completed from any Wallet Service you select.

  2. You review and approve. Fedi displays the request along with the federation wallet selector. Once you've chosen a wallet and reviewed the fee details, tap Accept to complete the payment.

  3. The payment is sent instantly. Once approved, your federation wallet pays the Lightning invoice. WebLN handles all the behind-the-scenes steps, so the payment feels instant & seamless.
