How do I start or create my own space?

Access Space Generator

To create your own space in the Fedi app, tap the + sign at the top right of the Spaces tab > toggle to Create on the next screen > and tap Create my Space at the bottom. This brings you to the web browser-based Space Generator, which you can use to create & manage your spaces.

Set Space Details

Select your language and tap Create Space to get started. Fill in your space details on the following screen. Your Space Name and a Welcome Message are the only required fields; all other fields (Pinned Message, Icon, & Terms of Service URL) are optional.

Here you can also select the option to hide the invite code to your space, meaning it won't be visible to members on the Space Details page - effectively restricting them from inviting others and giving you more direct control over who joins. Once finished with the fields, tap Next.

Add Suggested Mini Apps

On the next screen you can add suggested mini apps to your space. To add a mini app from our catalog, tap Fedi Mini App Catalog, which opens a new browser window. Select a mini app you'd like to add, and tap the Copy button to copy the relevant URL to your clipboard.

Next, navigate back to the Fedi app from your device's browser and tap + Add Mini App. This will bring up a screen where you can paste the URL you just copied (or any other URL) into the Link field. Once you enter a URL, the Title and Icon fields should populate automatically.

Feel free to edit these fields as desired, as sometimes the icon may be formatted incorrectly depending on the URL. Once done, tap Add Mini App & you will see your newly added mini app listed. Tap Next when finished. Note that you can use the pencil & trash icons next to a mini app to edit or remove it.

Add Default Chat Groups

The last step before publishing your space is to add default chat groups to the Chat Rooms section. To do so, tap + Add Group Chat. Next, select a public group(s) from the resulting pop-up that you'd like to add to your space or tap New group at the bottom to create one.

If creating a new group, simply type in a name for the group, choose whether or not you'd like it to be broadcast only, and tap Save changes. You'll note that the Public option is selected by default and cannot be unselected, as currently only public groups are eligible to be added to Spaces.

Once you have selected the groups you'd like to add to your space, tap Continue to proceed. Note that you can use the trash icon next to each added group to remove it if needed.

Publish & Invite Members

Lastly, tap Publish > Confirm to finalize the creation of your space. You will see a Copy Invite button on the subsequent pop-up, which you can use to invite prospective members. To navigate to your space, simply tap Access my Space. Congrats – your space is live!
