How do I recover my Manifold federation?

Your Manifold federation is bundled with your Fedi wallet. Your Federation Ambassador role is derived from your Fedi wallet itself, so recovering your Fedi account is what recovers the federation – there is no separate Manifold backup to keep, but you do need your 12 recovery words (Personal Backup).

First, restore your Fedi account on the new device. The full steps are in How do I recover my profile if I lose access to Fedi? – in short, install the latest Fedi app version, select Restore access, tap Start personal recovery, and enter your 12 recovery words in order.

Next, navigate to the Wallet tab, and then tap the + sign at the top right. From there, switch to Create and tap the Create button. That is the same place you initially created your federation from, and it is where the app picks recovery up.

You will then see a Recovering your Federation screen while it works. The Fedi app will search for your federation's encrypted backup on the relays, compare it with the guardians that hold your seats, reconnect your device to the federation, and then restore your eCash – the longest step. When it finishes, your federation is back, and you can manage it from the Manage Federation screen as before.

Note that recovery can continue in the background, so if it is taking longer than you expected, you can tap on Return to home to leave the screen and come back to it later.
