Getting started on Fedi is easy. Simply download the Fedi mobile app from either the App Store (iOS) or the Google Play Store (Android). Alternatively, you can also install the Android app from the APK.
Open the app and tap Get a Wallet to access open federations. The Discover tab displays publicly known federations, while the Join tab allows you to scan or paste an invite code for any federation (publicly known or not). You can also skip this by tapping Maybe Later at the bottom of the screen.
Once you've joined a federation, you will land on the Home tab, which displays your bitcoin balance, fiat Stable Balance (if enabled for the federation), federation announcement channel(s), and federation-selected mods. Feel free to read through previous announcements and explore the suggested mods.
To really start making the most out of Fedi, you'll want to fund your bitcoin balance from an external source to receive eCash. From there, start exploring the app via the tabs at the bottom of the screen.
Tap the Chat tab > Blue + at the bottom right to start a chat with a friend by scanning / entering their Fedi member code or create a public or private group that you can invite friends to later.
Next, tap the Mods tab to explore personal mods suggested by Fedi or hide the ones you don't need. Tap the + at the top right of the screen to add your own mods by pasting or entering a URL.
Finally, the Scan tab opens the omni-scanner, which allows you to scan or paste federation or community invite codes, Bitcoin addresses or Lightning invoices, & chat invite codes for friends or public groups.
Comments
Hey folks, we need to make edits to this doc.
1. The “mods” are outdated and have since been replaced by “Mini-Apps” which I like better.
2. Line 11: Tap the Chat tab > Blue + … (there's no blue +), instead the + in on the top right corner of the app.
Other than that, this is very helpful! :)
Thanks for helping us keep our resources up-to-date Getraud!
